The Apple iPhone 4S is not that old and the reports of short or overall poor battery life crept in pretty quickly over the last two weeks.  Apple made a comment that they would be issuing an update and that should be the end of it.  Today, the update was issued and according to the early reports, the update has improved the poor battery life.  The update, which is iOS 5.0.1, has been sent out to a couple of iPhone owners and feedback is still coming in.

One lucky iPhone owner has offered up his take on the update and said, “Frankly, the difference is nothing short of amazing.  To go almost an entire day without a change in the meter reading seems unbelievable, where before I could almost watch the battery drain; now it doesn’t move at all.”  That quote is from Don Kuntzman, who sent his review of the update to Wired magazine.  Kuntzman said that he first noticed the battery drain right after installing the new iOS 5, just like many others have reported.  Some reports complained they could literally sit and watch the battery drain of life right before their eyes.  Once the new update is sent out in full, the same comments should be heard from everyone.

Another reader of Wired magazine has also come forward after the update and said that the issue is almost 100% fixed.  Before the update, he claimed the battery was losing about 15 percent of its life per hour and now it is down to about 3 to 4 percent.  The update may not work for everyone, there are at least two cases where there was little change and in one case where the iPhone owner claimed the issue got even worse for them after the update.

Apple has come through with a fix for issues in the past and just like that, this battery drain issue should be forgotten about soon.  Apple had other issues like the “death grip” issue when the Apple iPhone first came around and people were losing calls because they were holding onto their phone like normal, but that grip was messing with the antenna and signal connection.  At the time, Apple offered up free iPhone cases that they said would eliminate the issue almost completely.  The company might have lost a couple customers, but making good on the issue surely brought them back.
