Back when Google unveiled Android 4.1 Jelly Bean a couple of months back as the latest version of its mobile operating system, Samsung and ASUS were two of the manufacturers who immediately confirmed which of their respective devices will get the Android 4.1 refresh. Samsung already drew first blood in the smartphone scene when it was reported as early as last week that Jelly Bean has been rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S III in Poland and a global release is due to follow. ASUS also kept its promise by unleashing the update to its Transformer Prime tablet a couple of days back. However, it looks like Galaxy S III and Transformer Prime users are not the only people rejoicing right now because Acer has already joined the Jelly Bean party.
That’s right folks. Acer has just started pushing out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to its Acer Iconia Tab A700 reports from several XDA Developer members have already come in confirming that their tablets have already gotten the Jelly Bean update. However, there were also reports from several users that VirusScan Mobile interfered with the update process so if you have this installed on your Acer Iconia Tab A700, be careful when proceeding with the update.
Anyway, the Jelly Bean refresh for the Acer Iconia Tab A700 apparently weighs in at approximately 332 MB so it is highly advisable to have the update downloaded and installed via Wi-Fi. Although the update is said to be rolled out to Acer Iconia Tab A700 tablets in Germany, we’re pretty sure that a global rollout is to follow in the next couple of days so we’re set to see a lot of happy Acer Iconia Tab A700 users on a global scale soon.
According to early adopters of Jelly Bean on the Acer Iconia Tab A700, the update brought a handful of new applications and widgets to the tablet. What’s notable however is the improved touch sensitivity of the tablet after the update in addition to the enhanced snappiness of its operation wherein apps are said to launch and exit more quickly – which we think is what Project Butter is all about. The user interface of the Acer Iconia Tab A700 also got a minor overhaul to its lock screen and notifications are now more detailed.
As for the Acer Iconia Tab A700, the tablet hit the shelves last June with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system. The circuitry of the tablet is built around its NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset which gives the slate a quad-core 1.3 GHz Arm Cortex-A9 processor and 1GB of DDR2 RAM. The tablet was released in a 16GB, 32GB and 64GB model in terms of storage space with the option to have its internal memory expanded using the tablet’s microSD card slot. Display-wise, the Acer Iconia Tab A700 sports a 10.1-inch LCD panel with a 1920 x 1200 resolution while its camera department features a main 5MP shooter at its back panel and a secondary video call and self-portrait camera at its front bezel.
