If you happen to have Sprint for your wireless provider and rock the carrier’s variant of the LG Optimus G, consider yourself lucky. You have in your hands one of the more powerful handsets currently available in the market today. And if you’ve been enjoying the time that you are playing with your handset, you will enjoy it more because the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is finally rolling out to the handset today.
The LG Optimus G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99.
Since that is the case, you might want to be on the lookout for that little notification that heralds the arrival of the Jelly Bean refresh on your handset. Or, you might also want to check for the update manually by going to Settings > Update firmware to get the update process rolling. The update as usual is getting rolled out via OTA but in a staggered manner so not all LG Optimus G handsets will get it at the same time so relax if it hasn’t landed on your device yet – it will turn up sooner or later, believe me.
The update will bring Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to the LG Optimus G and at the same time crank up its software version to version LS970ZVA. Aside from the usual Jelly Bean associated goodies such as Google Now, Android Beam and expandable, actionable notifications, the update will also bring the following enhancements to the LG Optimus G:
- QuickTranslator application downloadable from the Application Manager
- Smoother user interface. Vsync timing across all drawing and animation done by the Android framework, including application rendering, touch events, screen composition and display refresh; and triple buffering in the graphics pipeline
- User-installable keyboard maps
- Ability to turn off notifications on an app specific basis
- Shortcuts and widgets can automatically be re-arranged or re-sized to allow new items to fit on home screens
- Bluetooth data transfer for Android Beam
- Improved voice search
- Improved camera app
- Android mobile version of Google Chrome replaces stock Android browser
- Ability for other launchers to add widgets from the app drawer without requiring root access
You see the list of improvements that the update brings to the handset? This means that you have to have it applied to your LG Optimus G as soon as it lands and not a moment longer.
As for the handset, the LG Optimus G has its circuitry built around a QualComm APQ8064 SnapDragon S4 chipset which brings into the device a quad-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a whopping 2GB of RAM to ensure the flawlessness of the handset’s performance. The storage space onboard the handset comes up to a very generous 32GB of internal memory while its display is a True HD IPS Plus panel with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. its camera department on the other hand features a rear 13MP shooter and a front 1.3MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
You can purchase the LG Optimus G at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
