In today’s smartphone world, there is no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S III is one of the best handsets you can get your hands on. Not only that, it is by far one of the most popular devices currently available in the market today. You only have to look at the 20 million sales of the handset in its first one hundred days to see the popularity that the handset managed to attain. In turn, this made the Samsung Galaxy S III a veritable gold-mine for the Korean electronics giant.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is on sale now starting at 99.99.

When you look at it, it is as if the handset has everything – beautiful design and aesthetics, impressive specs sheet, even more impressive capabilities. However, that is not entirely true. The handset is still missing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in its equation. True, the Android 4.1 refresh has been rolled out to the handset in select territories but a more massive global rollout is yet to be seen.

With this, carrier-branded versions of the handset released in US shores are sorely at a disadvantage. Come to think of it, carriers always have a say regarding the update schedule and before it could get rollout, these carriers need to give the green light first – a fact that delays the update process itself unnecessarily. However, we already have the confirmation that the Jelly Bean update will hit carrier-branded versions of the Samsung Galaxy S III in US shores come 2013. In fact, a Samsung spokesperson went on record to confirm this. However, during the announcement, the schedule for the update to land on the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III was not mentioned.

This is because Sprint has decided to draw first blood in our side of the world in terms of the Jelly Bean update and has already started the rollout of the Android 4.1 refresh to its version of the Samsung Galaxy S III. This just made the carrier officially the first US wireless provider to seed out the latest iteration of the Android mobile operating system to the Samsung Galaxy S III in US shores.

We have Sprint’s official statement regarding the matter and we quote, “Today, Sprint became the first U.S. wireless carrier to offer the Android™ 4.1.1, Jelly Bean, update to its Samsung Galaxy S® III customers. The update began rolling out today and adds a host of new and enhanced TouchWiz® features, offering a faster, richer and more responsive device experience.”

The update is being rolled out via the usual OTA manner so feel free to wait for the notification that will let you know once the update has already landed on your Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III. But knowing you folks will be very excited about this, you can ignore the waiting part and just simply do a manual check for the update by going to Settings > About phone > Software updates to get the update process started.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy S III at a reduced price now starting at 99.99.

  1. I’m on Sprint, and I still haven’t received the update for my S3. Southern California (North County San Diego).
