Back in the day, Nokia was at the forefront of things in the smartphone competition. The manufacturer was especially proud of its E-Series line of smartphones which were the talk of the smartphone town back then. However, things did not go Nokia’s way because the Finnish company was relegated to the back seat with the entry of other OEMs such as Apple, Samsung, HTC, Motorola and the like in the smartphone competition. When these other manufacturers started to flood the market with their respective handsets, it was the beginning of the end for Nokia in that segment of the market.
The Nokia Lumia 920 is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $19.99.
Nokia however had plans to bounce back and become relevant again in the smartphone competition. The company started its bid to reclaim lost glory in the smartphone competition by partnering with software giant Microsoft in a strategic alliance and then it began coming up with handsets for the Windows Phone platform. Shortly thereafter, the Finnish manufacturer was again part of the smartphone landscape and was well on its way again to becoming one of the leading OEMs in the market again.
At the moment, the current flagship device of the Finnish manufacturer in the Windows Phone platform is the Nokia Lumia 920 which is one of the two top-tier handsets running Windows Phone 8 alongside the HTC Windows Phone 8X. The Nokia Lumia 920 is said to be the handset of choice if you want to get the most out of the Windows Phone experience so most Windows fanboys rock this particular model for their mobile weapon of choice.
There has been a lot of criticism though when it came to the weight of the handset. After all, the Nokia Lumia 920 tips the scales at 185 grams which is 2 grams heavier than the massive display-packing Samsung Galaxy Note II. But there is a reason for the heft of the Nokia handset. With this much material put into the frame of the handset, the Nokia Lumia 920 is built like a tank. But just how durable it is?
Well, to put it lightly, the Nokia Lumia 920 is as durable as they come. We took a look at a 3-month old Nokia Lumia 920 that was used without any kind of protective case and came upon the following observations. The handset’s Gorilla Glass 2 display shows some signs of wear but it would have to be noted that it is the oleophobic and oil coating of the handset that got scratched and not the glass itself. The rear panel of the Nokia Lumia 920 on the other hand does show some signs of scratches but unless you get the right amount of light, the finish of the chassis of the handset does an excellent job of hiding the scratches. In addition to that, the test handset we were looking at have been dropped a couple of times to the floor from waist high but the display of the handset has held up.
The conclusion? The Nokia Lumia 920 is one tough piece of technology that we wouldn’t mind spending a little more time with.
You can purchase the Lumia 920 at a discounted price tag now starting at $19.99.
