While tablet manufacturers like Apple, Samsung and Microsoft must make their profits on the physical tablet itself, Amazon is able to slide in under the retail prices of the other tablet manufacturers since they have a wonderful online ecosystem full of games, books, applications and other downloads where they make their profit instead. This makes the Kindle Fire HDX attractive financially, but a strict comparison on features alone also shows that the 7.0 and 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HDX tablets compare more than favorably with any other tablet PC line in the mobile marketplace.
The Kindle Fire HDX is available for immediate shipment starting at $229.
And Amazon has further discounted the Kindle Fire HDX lineup, including them in its annual holiday sale where they are available at the Amazon website online. Drawing industry praise from respected companies, the Kindle Fire HDX “sets the standard for a media consumption tablet” according to consumer electronics, PC and gadget-dedicated website CNET. And computer-focused website PC Mag stated that the high-resolution 1,920 x 1,200 display, coupled with a blazing quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, means that the Kindle Fire HDX “packs a serious punch for a relatively low price tag.”
Amazon has also done a good job creating special apps and features that other tablet PC manufacturers do not offer, while delivering a slim and lightweight form factor and attractive price tag. The Kindle Fire HDX 7 inch tablet measures a slim 0.35 inches (9.0 mm) in thickness, and the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 inch tablet PC is even skinnier, tabulating just 0.31 inches (7.8 mm) in profile. Also, Amazon’s Kindle team has made the Fire HDX tablets lighter than any other Kindle Fire they have designed in the past.
The quad core processor is blazing fast at 2.2 GHz, the 7 inch version delivers a front facing PC, while the 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HDX delivers both front and rear cameras. Up to 12 hours of mixed-use is provided from a single battery charge, and as many as 18 hours when reading. Both sizes deliver Dolby Audio sound enhancement, dual stereo speakers and a built-in microphone, and storage sizes runs 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. But probably one of the most attractive features is one that Amazon hopes you will never have to use.
The Kindle Fire HDX tablets come with a built-in “Mayday” button. While you can access customer service through traditional e-mail, Web and phone options, the Mayday button provides instant and live customer support whenever you have a problem. There is no fee for this outstanding feature which is found only on the Kindle Fire HDX tablets, which also deliver a 30 day trial membership to Amazon Prime, which provides unlimited and free video streaming. The Full HD display benefits by a powerful Adreno 330 graphics processor, and a 4G model is also available. You can purchase the Kindle Fire HDX starting at $229.
