The Kobo eReader Touch Edition has been getting reviewed more and more online and most are saying that if you want the best possible e-reader experience, you want the Nook Second Edition or the Kobo eReader Touch Edition.  One of the first things that get noted is that you can buy an e-book from any online store and access it on your Kobo eReader.  The Amazon Kindle is really the most popular e-reader, but some don’t like being restricted to buying e-books from the Amazon Marketplace.  With the Kobo e-reader, you can also check out books from your local library through the Adobe Digital Editions DRM management software.

The Kobo eReader can be purchased from Best Buy or Borders.  With the instability of Borders recently, customers might be concerned, but Borders only has a small stake in Kobo and the store closings are not likely going to affect the e-reader.  To set customers at ease, Kobo has released a statement saying, “As one of the early investors in Kobo, Borders has a minority stake in our company and serves as part of our distribution in the U.S. along with Walmart, Best Buy, Sears and other retailers. As a member of the broader book publishing and retailing community, we are watching Borders’ story with interest and send our best wishes to all the people of Borders.

In June Kobo and Borders began transitioning Borders’ customers’ eBook accounts to Kobo to provide direct access to the most up to date eReading functionality, apps, and devices. Kobo owners will continue to use their eReader devices as usual and browse and shop for new titles in the Kobo Store with no interruption in service. Kobo continues to grow in the U.S. and around the world and we’re very pleased with progress of the launch of the new Kobo eReader Touch Edition and European office with Kobo Germany.

The Kobo eReader Touch Edition comes in Lilac, Blue, Silver and Black and will cost you only $129.99.  The box contains your welcome guide, USB cable and the Kobo Touch itself.  You will not find a power adapter or any sort of carrying case so you will have to pick those up separately.  When compared to the Barnes & Noble Nook, the Kobo Touch is narrower and easier to handle with one hand while trying to read.  The Kobo Touch is covered in a soft material and has a pattern quilted on the back which adds to the comfortable feel.

Quick specs for the Kobo eReader Touch Edition include a 6-inch screen, microUSB port, 1GB of internal memory, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi and weighs in at about 7 ounces.
