A well-known HTC rumor machine announced this week that the Droid DNA 4G smartphone for Verizon will receive an upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 “in the coming weeks.” @LlabTooFeR has successfully in the past predicted substantial software and operating system upgrades, so we can only hope that the tech blogger is correct again this time. According to @LlabTooFeR, that operating system update will also accompany the HTC Sense 5.0 UI.
The HTC Droid DNA smartphone arrived on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the US on November 21 last year. The handset launched with Jelly Bean 4.1.2, and delivers double the average amount of RAM memory for a 4G smartphone. The Droid DNA 4G also offers a powerful quad core processor, one of the largest high resolution displays of any smartphone, and what is possibly the highest current pixel density of any phone in the mobile marketplace.
HTC has also included their exclusive Beats Audio sound system which delivers dedicated speaker amplifiers as well as a 2.5 volt headset amp. The sleek handset design is enhanced by red side grills and a seamless laminated screen which helps eliminate reflection. The tough, polycarbonate unibody has an ultra-matte finish, and arrives in a slim form factor at 0.38 inches (9.73 mm). The 5.0 inch 1,080P display delivers an extremely high pixel density of 441 pixels per inch, which outperforms the Apple iPhone 5 (326 ppi) and Samsung Galaxy S III (306 ppi).
The handset includes an Adreno 320 GPU and powerful 1.5 GHz quad core Snapdragon processor, and comes with the HD fantasy realm game Reign of Amira preloaded. The Droid DNA 4G offers NFC wireless connectivity, and HTC has pre-installed the popular Picasa application, as well as a YouTube video player. The 5.0 inch display mentioned earlier is an ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 model, which presents more than 16 million individual colors in visuals.
A scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protects the screen, and talk time can run as high as 12.6 hours, with 14.6 days of battery standby power offered from a full charge. The system chip running the handset is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 model, and a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is found in the handset’s hardware package. The HTC Droid DNA 4G Android smartphone comes equipped with 16 GB of onboard storage, and delivers an 8.0 megapixel rear facing camcorder with extensive customization package. That camera records video in 1,080P HD resolution, and can simultaneously capture HD video and images.
