sprintnexus5The Nexus 5 smartphone has been on the hot plate for a couple months now in terms of what is trending in the United States.  Rumors and speculation is getting out of hand and Google has been quiet during this whole process.  Most of the information regarding the specs and software for the new smartphone has come from filings from the FCC and other certification documentation found online.  More than a month ago, FCC filings revealed that the new Nexus 5 was going to at least show up on AT&T and T-Mobile networks, since their LTE bands appeared in the documents.

The other carrier that was noticed within the documents was Sprint, which offered the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus back in the day.  Google was to have a Google+ event this week that many thought would be the stage for the new Nexus 5 and the Nexus 10 tablet, but before that could happen, a leak came from a well known source that posted a photo of the new smartphone along with the statement, “Coming to Sprint” via Twitter.  The source has been proven correct on many occasions in the past when it comes to new smartphone information.

This information backs up the filing at the FCC, as well as other rumors that Sprint was going to be getting the Nexus branded smartphone right away.  The fifth generation smartphone is already on more carriers than the Nexus 4 was last year when it launched.  The Nexus 4 was also not compatible with 4G LTE networks inside or outside of the United States.  The Nexus 5 is set to bring a host of new improvements and enhancements over the model that was released last year, with the most obvious being the Android 4.4 KitKat software.

The phone is expected to arrive with a 5-inch touch screen display with a 1080p HD resolution, powered by the Snapdragon 800 processor from Qualcomm along with 2GB of RAM.  Internal storage will be held to the model that you buy as the device does not come with a microSD card slot for expansion.  The 8MP camera on the back side will feature Optical Image Stabilization and new software.  Overall the new Nexus 5 will be sleek and high end and should garner plenty of attention from those that have been waiting for a new model with 4G LTE support.
