Lenovo is one company that is more known for top of the line laptops or even the new line of tablets that the company has introduced, but getting a smartphone on the market was not one that many people had expected to see so soon. The new smartphone is showcased at the IFA 2013 event just a few days after the company revealed its new line of Windows powered notebooks and according to the specs, could be a real player along the top of the smartphone food chain.
The Vibe X from Lenovo is made from a polycarbonate plastic with the edges looking to be carved engraved with a 3D-like texture. Other top of the line smartphones are usually made from glass and metal bodies, but it looks like Lenovo is going to change things up a bit while still maintaining style and it could be part of the reason the phone weighs less than 0.26lbs. Featured on the new Vibe X is a 5-inch IPS display with a 1920×1080 resolution, which will fall right in line of the newer, high end devices on the market today and because the display is IPS, it will have more viewing angles than other HD options on the market.
Even though the smartphone is made from plastic, the IPS display is covered in a piece of indestructible Gorilla Glass 3 from Corning. That will give the device a bit of scratch and break resistant coverage for the nice HD display. For most of the devices that hit the top of the sales chart they include a Qualcomm quad-core processor, but Lenovo is going to change that a little bit by using a 1.5GHz, quad-core MTK processor with 2GB of RAM. The device comes with a microSD card slot for memory expansion, but the internal storage is limited to 16GB only.
If you are going to be taking a lot of pictures with the 13MP camera, then you are certainly going to want to get a large enough memory card for more storage unless you are connected via cloud storage, which is also an option here. Another high end feature that you do not see on most phones would be the larger than normal, 5MP webcam on the front side. This will produce perfect self portraits or clear video chat. The Lenovo Vibe X should be ready in October and will be shipping with Android 4.2.2, launching in China first.
