As of the moment, the Samsung Galaxy S III is still the undisputed king of the hill of the smartphone competition. Its reign on the market dates back to the latter parts of August when the Samsung flagship device hit the shelves and it has been on the top spot ever since. In fact, the strong sales performance of the device is very evident with its achievement of hitting the 20 million mark in just a hundred days after it launched and this showing continues despite the seeming competition from the Apple iPhone 5. In fact, analysts in the past predicted that the release of the sixth-generation iPhone could slow things down a bit for the Korean electronics giant but recent analysis from Localytics show that the sales of the Samsung Galax y S III even spiked after the announcement and release of the iPhone 5.

However, the Samsung Galaxy S III could also expect stiff competition from LG, a neighbor in its home town of South Korea. Remember, LG sounded off in the past that it is already in the process of building the most powerful smartphone in its lineup in the form of the LG Optimus G. Last month, the manufacturer confirmed that the LG Optimus G is headed to US shelves but this became even more specific when LG recently announced that the handset is headed to the shelves of Sprint. Sad to say, there is no solid word yet in terms of pricing and availability but we’re sure that the LG Optimus G is sure to drop in time for your holiday shopping.

As for the LG Optimus G, the handset is your typical Android-powered device with a black paint job that painfully makes it look like every other smartphone in the shelves today. The handset has dimensions of 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.5 mm and it tips the scales at 145 grams. It also exhibits a build quality that befits a flagship handset. Other than that, the LG Optimus G boasts of a Q-Slide feature that is somehow similar to the Multi-Screen feature of the Samsung Galaxy Note II. This feature enables you to view two different screens on the LG Optimus G at the same time. It also comes with QuickMemo that enables you to use your fingers in writing notes on a screenshot or an image and sharing it via email or your favorite social network.

Under the hood, the LG Optimus G is expected to ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system and this will be powered by the handset’s QualComm MSM9615 SnapDragon S4 chipset. This brings a quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 2GB of RAM to the handset while its storage capacity is pegged at 32GB. In terms of its display, the LG Optimus G will come with a 4.7-inch True HD-IPS + LCD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels while its camera department will feature a main 13MP shooter at its back panel while its front bezel is home to its front-facing 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera.
