Over the last couple of years, smartphone makers have decided that if consumers want to have a smartphone, but do not need a huge, 5-inch 1080p HD display, they could get one by purchasing a “mini” version of the popular original. HTC and Samsung might have been the first to do such a thing as release a mini version of the HTC One and the Galaxy S3. Those two smartphones have been selling just as well as the originals and for the most part offer similar specs in a smaller body overall.
The LG G2, Black original is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99 – $599.99.
HTC and Samsung are not the only two companies that are hoping to find success in the mini mobile smartphone market. LG reportedly is working on a mini version of the popular, powerful LG G2 smartphone. The LG G2 Mini has not been announced by LG and with the Consumer Electronics Show coming up next month it is likely that they will say nothing until then. Rumors are floating around and indicate that the company has been in the lab putting together a powerful, mini version of the smartphone that is not going to skip hardware like those that came from HTC or Samsung.
LG is reportedly going to pack the mini version of the smartphone with similar specs that you can find in the full version. That includes a super fast, quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. The quad-core processor is expected to be the popular Snapdragon 800 from Qualcomm, which is one of the fastest on the market today, being clocked at 2.3GHz. The display is likely to be a little smaller, which is typically where the “mini” comes in, but there is no indication whether it will be 1080p or 720p HD.
The LG G2 is one of the first smartphones to have functional buttons on the back side of the phone. LG claims that the re-positioning improves ergonomics, but it is not clear if the mini version will follow suit there. The odds are good that the screen size will be closer to 4.7-inches rather than 5.2-inches like the full sized model. With the Consumer Electronics Show and the Mobile World Congress event in Spain in the beginning of next year, LG is likely to wait until then to make any sort of announcement. With that announcement should come the pricing details and what carriers the phone will be on.
