With the popularity of the LG G2 smartphone that was recently released, it will not surprise anyone when LG announces the latest smartphone to replace it. Most smartphones have a life cycle that is shorter than one year before the next model comes along and replaces it with a better display, faster performance and more productive applications. Rumors have been swirling about the Samsung Galaxy S5 lately, but nothing has really been said about the LG G3, which many are expecting to see this year. The new LG G3 will reportedly be developed to take on the Galaxy S5 directly.
With the Galaxy S5 coming in March or April, the initial reports that the LG G3 coming in the fall are quite disturbing. If LG would want to take on the Galaxy S5, it would make more sense to release the smartphone to the market around the same time. With the current information, Samsung would have a few months of sales in before the LG G3 even hits the store shelves. Reports from this week indicate that LG has passed another part of the process to getting the LG G3 to the market so it can take on rivals from Samsung and Apple yet this year.
LG has reportedly applied for a trademark on the “G3” with the USPTO under the mobile phones category and that pretty much gives the rumor more evidence of becoming a reality. When it comes to the rumors that have been shared on the web, the LG G3 could arrive with a 5.5-inch QHD display with a 2560×1440 resolution. The processor has been part of debate for the last few rumors, but nonetheless, it will certainly be a quad-core model and that will be paired up with 3GB of RAM, possibly making it one of the fastest smartphones on the market.
Other specs that have been getting attention include the pre-installed version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating software, a 16MP camera on the back side that comes with Optical Image Stabilization+ and a fingerprint scanner made popular by the Apple TouchID hardware and software. Even though the G3 is not expected for months, LG could still showcase it at the Mobile World Congress event in Spain at the end of this month just as a teaser for those that might be interested.
