lgoptimusgThe Android 4.1.2 operating system upgrade has hit the LG Optimus G for Sprint, delivering Google Now, as well as camera and user interface improvements. The Chrome for Android mobile web browser now replaces the default Android browser in this update, and the growing 4G LTE network of Sprint now claims more than 58 major markets in the United States. LG stretched the screen from edge to edge, making for the smallest possible form factor while still delivering a large 4.7 inch screen.

Optional Power Saver and Eco Mode features allow you to squeeze as much battery power out of a single charge as is possible, and this helps the handset deliver up to 13.0 hours of talk time on the Sprint 4G LTE network. The phone arrives with a slim profile, measuring just 0.33 inches (8.45 mm). The display mentioned above is a 4.70 inch True HD IPS+ Touch Hybrid model, delivering 1,280 by 768 pixel resolution. LG offers Zerogap Touch technology for the first time on the Optimus G.

What that technology does is remove the layer of air usually found between a handset’s LCD panel and glass, and this moves the display closer to the surface of the phone. The result is truer colors, and better viewing at extreme angles and in bright light situations. That screen delivers a pixel density of 318 pixels per inch, with more than 16 million colors present, and supports standard multitouch, capacitive gestures for navigation.

The system chip on board the LG Optimus G is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 package, built around a quad core 1.5 GHz central processor. An Adreno 320 GPU handles all graphics processing, a full 2.0 GB of RAM memory has been pre-installed, and 32 GB of storage space is on board. The phone also delivers extensive camera features and one of the largest megapixel counts for any camcorder sensor found on a smartphone.

The LG Optimus G rear camera runs 13.0 megapixels, and delivers a feature called Voice Shutter. This voice activated operational application actually snaps a photograph when you speak a certain voice command. The handset is programmed with five different commands in the camera, including words like “cheese,” “smile,” and “kimchi”. The LG Optimus G for Sprint also comes equipped with a front facing chat cam, and the rear snapper captures video in 1,080P HD resolution. A music player with Dolby mobile sound enhancement is on board, and the handset currently retails for $49 on contract at the Amazon Wireless store online.

  1. Looking at my computer, Sprint is showing the LG Optimus g at $49.99 with a 2year agreement. I called the sprint store in Delray Beach, Fl and they gave me a price of $199.99 for an upgrade. Best buy is selling it for $99.99. I am due for an upgrade and will be ready to purchase this mobile phone on Monday, April 1st, 2013. If sprint will get back to me with the correct price, I will buy it from them at the store. Hoping to get a prompt reply, because this coming Monday will be the day I will purchase this mobile phone.

  2. If you click on the links in the article, you’ll be directed to the trusted online authorized Sprint retailer who has the phone for $49.99 with free shipping. The carriers typically do not match these discounted prices, but you never know – you might talk them into matching it.
