While sales of 1.0 million handsets don’t exactly scare the pants off of competing smartphones like the Galaxy S III an Apple iPhone 5, this is a significant achievement for any smartphone manufacturer’s device. The LG Optimus G hit 1.0 million global sales in mid-January, a nice achievement for LG when you consider the handset has only been available since November 11 of last year in the United States. Not as wide and not as big as the Galaxy S III, the LG Optimus G delivers a slightly smaller form factor while still offering a large high-resolution screen with pixel density that is superior to the GS III.
The handset arrived on the Sprint wireless network last year, and Sprint chose their new 4G LTE system for the device to run on. LG was able to make for the smallest possible size while delivering a 4.7 inch screen by maximizing the display and minimizing the bezel on the front of the handset. The LG Optimus G for Sprint also delivers unique Power Saver and Eco Mode features which allow you to set battery saving rules for your phone. The QuickMemo app enables you to jot or sketch on the screen with a stylus, and Video Wiz will appeal to the closet shutterbug, allowing you to edit video and combine snapshots.
On the Sprint 4G LTE system, the powerful quad core processor of the LG Optimus G allows you to watch a video while performing an entirely different task. You can browse the web, check your e-mails or text message while enjoying your favorite movie or video, thanks to the QSlide function the handset delivers. Slim at 0.33 inches (8.45 mm), the handset nonetheless boasts a large 4.70 inch True HD IPS+ Touch Hybrid Display.
That is a bunch of fancy words that announce a resolution of 1,280 x 768 pixels, and the Optimus G is the first smartphone from LG to offer the cutting-edge Zerogap Touch technology. On most handsets, there is a slim layer of air between the LCD panel and glass, and that has been removed on this handset. What that does is move the display closer to the surface, delivering truer colors, and better viewing outdoors and at extreme angles. Pixel density is high at 318 pixels per inch, and that display is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass.
Talk time runs as high as 13.0 hours from a single battery charge, and the LG Optimus G for Sprint is powered by a speedy quad core 1.5 GHz CPU. A generous 32 GB of storage is built-in, and 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is present. The rear facing 13.0 megapixel camera comes equipped with voice activation and a special effects package, and extensive feature set and 1,080P HD video resolution recording. A built-in music player offers Dolby Mobile sound enhancement, and the front facing chat cam offers video call support.
