The LG Optimus G handset was officially announced on October 3, and launched as planned on November 11. Arriving on the brand-new Sprint 4G LTE system in the United States, it retails for under $100 currently online at select online wireless stores during their holiday and Cyber Monday week sales events. By giving the handset a sleek black chassis, LG made it stand apart visually from typical Android smartphones, and it delivers the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box.
With battery conservation features like a Power Saver application and Eco Mode, the handset delivers well above average battery performance for a 4G smartphone. Up to 13.0 hours of talk time are achieved from a single charge of the 2,100 mA battery on board the LG Optimus G, and the Video Wiz app gives you the power to edit video and string together photos. If you’ve ever thought about watching a video or movie while multitasking, the QSlide function lets you do exactly that while checking your e-mail or browsing the web.
The LG Optimus UI v3.0 Android overlay accepts capacitive, multitouch gestures, and the handset is exceptionally thin at 0.33 inches (8.45 mm). The 4.70 inch True HD IPS+ display is one of the largest found on any smartphone, and by removing the layer of air which exists on most smartphones between the LCD panel and the exterior glass, the LG Optimus G provides truer colors and better viewing in direct sunlight and at extreme angles.
A full 318 pixels per inch and 16 million colors are represented on that display, and the handset has WXGA quality resolution at 1,280 x 768 pixels. A layer of Corning Gorilla Glass offers scratch resistance, while a quad core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor anchors a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 microchip package. The hardware package also includes an Adreno 320 graphics processor, 2.0 GB of RAM system memory and 32 GB of built-in data storage.
A YouTube video player and built-in music player are on board, as is a 13.0 megapixel camcorder with voice activation features. The music player arrives with a Dolby Mobile sound enhancement package. That rear camcorder provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution, and is joined in the camera combo by a front facing video call capable chat cam. The popular Picasa application is on board, and the Optimus G 4G handset provides NFC (Near Field Communications) support out-of-the-box, and can function as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple wireless devices.
You can purchase the recently released LG Optimus G for a reduced price tag now starting at $149.99.
