Delivering a desirable alternative to the Android and Apple operating systems, the Nokia Lumia 920 delivers what that smartphone manufacturer is calling their fastest LCD display ever. Technology in the PureMotion HD+ display refreshes up to 2.5 times faster than typical smartphones, and Nokia’s ClearBlack feature and new hypersensitive touchscreen mean excellent viewing in bright sunlight and at extreme angles, as well as the ability to use your Lumia 920 4G even while wearing gloves.
Dolby sound enhancement improves all audio on the Lumia 920 4G, which launched on AT&T’s 4G LTE network on November 9. This is the first ever Windows Phone device from Nokia with a dual core processor and true HD screen, and Windows’ most recent Phone 8 OS is on board. The 4.5 inch ClearBlack LCD display presents more than 16 million colors at a rate of 332 pixels every inch, and that results in an overall screen resolution of 768 x 1,280 pixels.
A light sensory automatically adjusts your display brightness to compensate for ambient light, and the handset’s proximity sensor dims the display when you make or receive a voice call to preserve battery life. At a full 17.0 hours of talk time from a single battery charge in 4G, the 2,000 mA battery delivers roughly twice that of the average smartphone. In 3G talk time runs 10.0 hours. The hardware package is anchored by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 chip set with LTE radio, and the Nokia Lumia 920 4G has 1.0 GB of RAM memory.
The dual core CPU on board the handset has been clocked at 1.5 GHz, and a graphics specific Adreno 225 chip is also on board. Delivering the most out-of-the-box, built-in data storage at 32 GB, the Nokia Lumia 920 4G also offers 7 GB of SkyDrive cloud storage. Popular social networking applications Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Picasa have been pre-installed into the handset, Internet Explorer 10.0 has been pre-installed as well, and the handset delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box.
The camcorder on the back of the Lumia 920 4G handset benefits from a Carl Zeiss optics package and extra wide video and image capture due to its f/2.0 lens, and that 8.7 megapixel snapper also boasts ceramic zirconium camera detailing. That camera offers optical image stabilization, a dual LED flash, a back illuminated sensor (BSI), digital zoom and several other customization features, and is capable of recording video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080p HD resolution). It is joined in the camera combo by a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam with video call capability.
