surfacepro2If you are one that picked up the Surface Pro 2 when it arrived on the market, there might be a reason to pay attention.  According to reports, Microsoft has pulled a firmware update for the device after problems came about as users started to download and install the software on their device.  Microsoft recently released a bunch of updates for the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 on the 10th of December and since then users have been reporting issues with reduced battery life, while others are saying the install process keeps failing.

The company responded by pulling the update so that it was not downloaded by more devices and released a statement saying, “To ensure the best experience for our customers during the holiday season, we have taken steps to remove the update for Surface Pro 2 that was previously published through Windows Update on December 10th, 2013. We are working to release an alternative update package after the holidays”.  Microsoft is not offering any sort of workaround or troubleshooting that you can do to fix the issues at this point so it becomes a waiting game for those that did install the update.

According to support documents, the update improved interaction between the Surface Cover and that included power-saving functions.  Other things that were included with the update were improved system stability, updated Wi-Fi driver for better connectivity, color fidelity improvements for installed apps, optimized two-finger trackpad use and enhanced audio experience when you are connected to a Display Port 1.2 device.  The issues that have been experienced are only being reported by those that have the Surface Pro 2 and not ones with the Surface 2, which is a good thing, but users will still be waiting to get the download until the company can figure things out.

The Surface tablets have been released by Microsoft with hopes of competing in the very tough tablet market, however the company has not seen all that much success with that venture.  The Surface Pro 2 features a 10.6-inch IPS LCD touch screen display with a 1080p HD resolution.  Powering the tablet is a dual-core, Intel Core i5 processor that is clocked at 1.6GHz.  Graphics are handled with an Intel HD graphics 4400 processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM.  Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support is also included all with a price tag that is around $899.
