An executive at Samsung today has confirmed that the latest edition of the Galaxy S phones, the Galaxy S III, will feature a quad core chipset most likely manufactured by Exynos. Samsung recently expressed concerns over its increased reliance on Qualcomm for chipsets, though it has yet to make an official statement about their new flagship device. The new phone is expected to feature an indigenously developed LTE radio. Samsung is keen to ensure that the new device does not suffer from battery problems as seen in the other previous generation LTE devices which relied on Qualcomm based SoCs for LTE connectivity.

It is unclear as to what architecture the new processor will employ. Two of the top contenders for this are the Cortex-A15 and the Cortex-A9 though only the 32nm version of the Cortex-A9 surface is most likely to be used. As for the GPU of the smartphone, it is unclear whether it will be a mere upgrade of the 400MP quad-core Mali GPU already used in the Galaxy S II or if it will be the new T604. One way or the other once the smartphone is released, the Samsung Galaxy S III will definitely be one of the most powerful smartphones available in the market.

In other news, the latest addition to the Android lineup of Motorola was revealed today. The new device has not had any official announcement yet and has currently been nicknamed DROID Fighter and will be similar to the DROID  RAZR. The device specs are not clear yet but from the images which have surfaced it seems like the device will not have any physical buttons on the front, indicating that the device will most definitely be powered by the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich.

It has also been confirmed that Verizon will be the preferred carrier for the new device. The device is rumored to be released later this year, most likely in April so the rest of the specs can be expected to be out soon. However, it is clear that the device will have a 4.6 inch HD screen and will feature a battery similar to that seen in the DROID RAZR Maxx. The DROID RAZR Maxx is currently running on a 3300 mAh battery.
