Released on October 16 of this year, the Motorola Atrix 2 is available exclusively on the AT&T 4G mobile broadband network at a retail price of $49 with a two-year activation. Motorola stated that the device would be multifunctional, much like its predecessor, the Atrix 4G. Along those lines, Motorola designed the Atrix 2 to function as an entry-level notebook when ported into their optional Lapdock accessory, and as a desktop PC replacement or multimedia center when used with the Motorola Multimedia HD Station.
We were a little surprised to see this new Motorola Atrix 2 4G priced at only $49 for all customers with new two year contract, but AT&T is really pushing this new version of the popular predecessor.
Motorola employees the black, candybar form factor that most current 4G smartphones enjoy, and the handset is average in size if not a little heavier than the average 4G handset, measuring 4.96 x 2.59 x 0.40 inches (126 x 66 x 10 mm) and tipping the scales at 5.18 oz (147 g). The Atrix 2 has a 4.30 inch capacitive touch screen, and supports 16 million colors. Pixel density is 240.00 ppi, and resolution is 540 x 960 pixels. Multitouch gestures are supported, and a light sensor and proximity sensor are built into the handset’s display.
Consecutive talk time offered by a single battery charge is an above average 8.50 hours, and standby time is roughly 17 days on the 1785 mAh battery. The processor in the Motorola Atrix 2 is a dual core chip from Texas Instruments, their 1.0 GHz OMAP4430 model, and the graphics processor on board is a PowerVR SGX 540 chip. 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 8 GB of built-in storage are also on hand, and a microSD slot allows for storage expansion up to 32 GB.
Buy the Motorola Atrix 2 4G for only $49 with new two year contract, and that includes new and existing upgrades for a limited time.
Facebook and Twitter apps are preloaded, and a YouTube video player is also present. The additional audio and video players on board support all major file formats, and the Atrix 2 comes with a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder which offers white balance, autofocus and LED flash capabilities. That camera records in 1920 x 1080 (1080p HD) resolution at 30 frames per second, and a front facing 0.3 megapixel VGA camcorder offers video chat and video calling functionality.
An FM stereo is on board, the Adobe Flash media player is fully supported, and Google’s Android operating system is also present. Video out is offered through HDMI and DLNA access, wireless connectivity is offered through both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi b, g, n options, and the on board microUSB port allows for charging the device.
