Motorola Atrix 2 brings improved specs, dual core processor and 4G technology in next generation AT&T Atrix

Motorola released the Atrix 2 recently, the second installment of their Atrix Android smartphone which has the ability to port into a LapDock laptop shell, a multimedia HD Station and also and in-vehicle GPS dock. The Motorola Atrix 2 is exclusive to the AT&T 4G network and arrives at a $49 retail price with two-year activation, making it the lowest price dual core 4G launch in AT&T’s history. That retail price launch is also a full $100 less than the launch date price of its predecessor, the Motorola Atrix 4G.

Pre-sales are happening now and new customers can buy the Motorola Atrix 2 4G for only $49.99 with new two year contract. Existing customers start at $199, which is still cheaper than most of the new 4G releases.

The Motorola Atrix 2 is similar in design to most every other current 4G smartphone. It arrives as a rectangular black handset and measures 4.96 x 2.59 x 0.40 inches (126 x 66 x 10 mm), weighing in at 5.18 oz (147 g), dimensions and weight about average for all 4G handsets. The Motorola Atrix 2 comes with a 4.3 inch screen that offers support for 16 million colors and multitouch gestures. The resolution offered is 540 x 960 pixels, and a proximity sensor gives the device auto shut off capabilities, while a light sensor adjusts the display to your surrounding light conditions.

The Motorola Atrix 2 has a 1785 milligrams battery which offers 8.5 hours of talk time, about the average for all 4G Android handsets. Standby time is 16 days. The processor on board is a dual core 1.0 GHz chip, and 1.0 GB of RAM memory joins a 3-D graphics hardware accelerator in rounding out the software set. Social media apps Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are preinstalled, and the on-board video and audio players support all major file formats. Web browsing is supported through HTML, HTML5 and XHTML capability, and Adobe’s Flash media player is on board as well.

8 GB of storage is built in out-of-the-box, with the ability to upgrade that to 32 GB of storage via the microSD slot. A microUSB slot is provided for charging the handset, DLNA and HDMI wireless and wired video out are on board, and wireless connectivity is offered in the form of Wi-Fi 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1 technology.
