What do the Motorola Atrix 4G and LG Optimus 2X Android smartphones and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Acer Iconia tablets have in common? Aside from being great personal electronics items and fun tech toys with lots of features, they all received some love from Skype recently. The provider of free internet voice calls just this week released an update to their popular Skype for Android application that adds voice call support to the Motorola Atrix  4G and several other smartphones and tablets.

The Skype 2.5 voice call Android application update includes over a dozen popular Android devices. In total, Skype now offers voice calling on 41 separate Android devices. Skype said that the update, aside from offering video call capability to several devices which never had it before, also includes some major and minor enhancements which they feel should make the Skype experience much easier and even more dependable.

Now, if you change the orientation of your Motorola Atrix  4G, your screen will immediately recognize the orientation change-up and Skype will be portrayed properly. This includes the Lapdock for the Atrix 4G as well. Also, if the party you are video chatting with is far away from their screen or monitor, or you simply want to get the closest view possible, all you have to do is double tap the screen to zoom in. And as everything technologically awesome ends up eventually getting around to, Skype will also be delivering an advertising platform. If you prefer an advertising-free experience, you must be a Skype Credit or Premium member.

Recently, Mac and iOS updates, as well as Amazon’s Kindle eReader, received advertising platform updates, and they are certainly not the first device or operating system manufacturers to attempt to monetize their products. In their press release announcing this upgrade, Skype also stated that more devices would be added for video call support in the future.  Buy the Motorola Atrix 4G starting at only $24.99!

In a secondary announcement, Skype also released an update for their iPhone and iPad application in an attempt to stop outgoing Skype video chat from “shaking” when using a rear facing camera on a smartphone or tablet. Previously, Skype video chat had a disturbing amount of movement when used in this situation. The IOS update also adds Bluetooth support, allowing you to use headsets which are Bluetooth enabled to make hands-free Skype calls.
