Whenever Google releases a new version of its Android mobile operating system, it can only be expected that manufacturers will scamper in reorganizing their schedules to fit the development of the latest Android version in their timelines. In addition to that, these same manufacturers will also jostle for position in taking the stage to announce whatever plans they have in getting the devices in their respective lineups cranked up to the latest and greatest from Google.
Back when Google unveiled Android 4.1 Jelly Bean back in July, ASUS and Samsung were among the first OEMs to take center stage to give users of their devices an idea as to when they can expect the Jelly Bean update to become available. Since then, several tablets from ASUS and the Galaxy S III from Samsung have already gotten a taste of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean goodness.
This time around, it is the turn of Motorola to give it followers an update as to when Android 4.1 Jelly Bean can be expected to land on which device. Ever since, Motorola has been known to be an OEM that is rather not that timely in the release of updates and we are hoping that Google’s acquisition of the manufacturer will somehow change that but it looks like nothing’s changed after all.
With this update, we finally get the confirmation that the Motorola Atrix HD released by AT&T in US shores is already next in line in getting cranked up to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. According to Motorola’s update roadmap, the handset can be expected to get a taste of the Android 4.1 refresh this December so users of the handset will definitely be excited with this piece of news.
Looking back, it was reported a couple of weeks ago that Motorola is already in the process of putting the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Motorola Atrix HD though a soak test. Looking at the updated roadmap, it looks like the soak test was a success but unfortunately, the specifics of as to when we can exactly expect the Jelly Bean update for the handset to finally land hasn’t been nailed yet. However, you can be assured that once we have more details, you will be the first to know.
As for the Motorola Atrix HD, the handset’s addition to the Android portfolio of AT&T was announced back in July and the handset promptly became available for mass consumption in the same month. Under the hood, the handset relies on its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset to power its operation while a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz works in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM to ensure that the performance of the handset is always flawless. The storage space onboard the Motorola Atrix HD comes up to 8GB but the handset comes with a microSD card slot for memory expansion purposes so the meager 8GB internal storage of the handset shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Display-wise, the Motorola Atrix HD packs a 4.5-inch TFT panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera.
