The Motorola Droid Bionic is the fourth phone to arrive on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, and it is the first phone offering a dual core processor to join the LTE. You may recall earlier this year that the HTC Thunderbolt set all-time upload and download speed records on the Verizon 4G LTE, and it offered a 1.0 GHz single core processor. Much has been made of the fact that the Droid Bionic has dual cores, which basically offer twice the speed. Can you then extrapolate, and reasonably expect twice the speed of the HTC Thunderbolt? Of course not, but Motorola hopes that this first entrant as a dual core phone into the Verizon 4G LTE arena will extend the popularity and sales success of what is already one of their best selling lines of all time, the Droid handset.
The Motorola Droid Bionic can be purchased for as little as $149 for brand new customers and $249 for existing customer upgrades.
Equipped with a 1.0 GHz dual core processing chip set, the Motorola Droid Bionic offers a full 1.0 GB of RAM memory. Google’s 2.3 Gingerbread Android operating system is enabled out-of-the-box, and Adobe Flash player media support is also on board. The Motorola Droid Bionic is also backwards compatible to the three optional docks which were made by Motorola for their Atrix 4G smartphone. That means a Motorola Droid Bionic owner can extend the functionality of their handset as a laptop, multimedia center or automobile hands-free GPS system.
The Motorola Droid Bionic has a 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen with protective anti-scratch glass cover over proximity and light sensors. The Droid Bionic supports a full 16 million color display, and offers 540 x 960 pixel resolution with multitouch gesture navigation. A microSD slot is available for storage expansion up to 32 GB in total, and a microUSB 2.0 port is available for charging the device, and also accessing other digital devices.
Bluetooth stereo and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity are offered, and video out via HDMI wired access and DLNA wireless access are also on board. The Motorola Droid Bionic offers 11 hours of continuous use on a single battery charge, while the 4G smartphone average across the marketplace is 8 hours. A rear facing 8 megapixel video camera allows for recording in 1080P high definition, and provides several features for customization of your still pictures and video recordings. The Motorola Droid Bionic is offered by Verizon Wireless on their 4G LTE network for a retail price of $179 with two-year activation.
