In January of this year the HTC Thunderbolt Android smartphone arrived on Verizon’s 4G Long term evolution (LTE) wireless broadband network. Verizon had been telling us for some time that their 4G network would be a minimum of 10 times faster than their 3G platform. But in this jaded age of over-hyped manufacturer’s claims, the consumer-electronics buying public has come to take anything a manufacturer says with a grain of salt. However, if anything, Verizon’s claims may have been a little understated. The HTC Thunderbolt was the first phone to Verizon’s 4G LTE wireless network, and immediately posted the quickest upload and download speeds of any handset ever.

Fast forward to September 8, and we have the arrival of one of the most anticipated and advertised Motorola mobile handsets ever. The Motorola Droid Bionic on that day became the fifth phone to land on Verizon’s 4G LTE mobile broadband network. What makes that so important is the Motorola Droid Bionic 4G Android handset is the first smartphone with a dual core processor to arrive on the Verizon 4G LTE platform. The HTC Thunderbolt set the speed records with only a single core processor. For those uninitiated, a dual core processor can handle the same amount of processing requests in half the time of a single processor.

Aside from a dual core processor, the Motorola Droid Bionic 4G handset also delivers the versatility that previously only the Motorola Atrix 4G could boast of having. Motorola designed the Atrix 4G to work in tandem with a laptop-like accessory they call the Lapdock. This virtually turns the Atrix 4G into an entry-level 11.5 inch notebook. They also designed the Atrix 4G to dock into a Vehicle Navigation GPS unit and Multimedia Station. The Motorola Droid Bionic 4G has been designed to also access these three accessories which extend the functionality of the handset far beyond that of a normal Android smartphone.

The Motorola Droid Bionic 4G Android handset is available exclusively on the Verizon 4G LTE network. The Droid Bionic employs a 1 GHz dual core processing chip and 1.0 GB of DDR two RAM memory, and comes preloaded with Android’s 2.3 Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box.
