droidmaxxWe reported here at the end of the year that the Verizon Motorola Droid MAXX 4G long-life smartphone was in the process of receiving an upgrade to the Android KitKat 4.4 operating system. That handset did begin to receive the OS boost at the end of December, but problems with compatibility have caused Verizon to put the release on hold. Verizon has only announced that after the problems with the compatibility on the Motorola Droid Maxx 4G are resolved they will re-release KitKat 4.4, aiming for sometime in January or February of 2014.

The Motorola DROID MAXX is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $149.99 – $709.99.

On the pricing side of the equation, the handset is currently offered beginning at around $49 on contract at Amazon, and delivers a high definition 5.0 inch AMOLED display, a speedy 1.7 GHz processor and a rear facing 10.0 megapixel camera. That rear snapper boasts ClearPixel technology which allows the lens to absorb more light than other smartphone cameras that boast a higher megapixel count. This new camera technology also cuts down on blur and noise.

The Motorola Droid MAXX is designed with a soft touch finish which limits drops, and gives the phone a “premium feel” while also hiding fingerprints. Up front the phone boasts a large 5.0 inch True HD 720P AMOLED screen, protected by a durable scratch resistant layer of Gorilla Glass. That display offers more than 16 million individual colors, delivered at the rate of 294 pixels over each inch of display space. That display design also allows for efficient viewing at extreme angles and in bright sunlight.

The camera we mentioned above also claims a special RGBC sensor, collecting up to 75% more sunlight than typical smartphone sensors. A f/2.4 aperture lens and 1.4 micron pixel size are present, with that rear facing shooter providing video capture at 1,080P HD resolution and at the rate of 60 frames per second. Touch to focus, an LED flash, slow motion video recording and a panorama mode are all features of the Motorola Droid MAXX main camera. Motorola has also included a front facing chat cam with video call support.

A 1.7GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip joins a quad core Adreno 320 GPU clocked at 400MHz in the handset’s hardware package, along with a separate language processing core and contextual computing processor. The phone also includes a large 3,500 mA cell, with that extended life battery delivering an industry best 48.0 hours of all-around usage from a full charge. 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as is 32 GB of built-in data storage space.

The Motorola DROID MAXX can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $149.99 – $709.99.
