Motorola recently announced that the Droid Mini 4G Android smartphone running on Verizon would leapfrog Android 4.3 and head to Android’s 4.4 KitKat operating system version. The handset celebrated this news at select online retail outlets with a price reduction all the way down to $0.01 on contract, and another piece of good news was recently released. Evidently the Droid Mini 4G will receive a camera update, improving performance and features of its 10 megapixel ClearPixel shooter.
The Motorola Droid Mini can be purchased at a reduced price starting at one penny, saving you up to $49.98 over carrier prices.
Motorola debuted its ClearPixel technology on the Moto X, and then also delivered the extra brightness capturing feature on the Droid Mini 4G. VP of Moto products Punit Soni confirmed that the Motorola Droid Mini would receive the same update that the Moto X just got, but as usual stopped short of announcing a specific rollout schedule. The camera update for the Moto X delivered enhancements to autofocus, speed, and color, and you can probably expect the same software update to hit the Droid Mini.
Along with the camera software upgrade there are sure to be some firmware additions, bug fixes and other tweaks, and Motorola Mobility has been working closely with parent company Google to add hands-free features. Motorola says this will make the touch-free Google Now voice activation faster, more accurate and more responsive. The Motorola Droid Mini has a stand-alone natural language processing core which understands your verbal commands even if it is in standby mode through Google Now integration.
With smartphones becoming larger and larger all the time, some of them offer a form factor which is simply too big for some mobile handset buyers. The goal of the Motorola Droid Mini was to provide a 4G capable smartphone with a large high-resolution display and extremely generous battery power, while still making the phone as small, slim and lightweight as possible. Motorola designers did a good job in that regard, and the phone measures just 4.77 x 2.41 x 0.35 inches (121.25 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm) in size.
Light in weight as well, the Kevlar coated Motorola Droid Mini weighs just 4.59 ounces (130 g). Yet the handset still offers a large 4.30 inch True HD display with a resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels. Battery life runs nearly 3 times the industry average with 28 hours of talk time delivered after a full charge. 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as is 16 GB of built-in data storage space. The rear facing 10.0 megapixel quick capture camera records video in 1,080P HD resolution, and is joined in the camera combo by a front facing chat cam with video call support. The Droid Mini can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at just one penny.
