Motorola Mobility was purchased by Google, and Big G definitely had a hand in the creation of the Motorola Droid Mini 4G Android smartphone. The handset offers the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system out-of-the-box, with a planned upgrade to Android’s 4.3 Jelly Bean. Consumer Reports praised the Droid Mini for its inclusion of Google Now and the feature Motorola is calling Touchless Control, saying that that feature helps the Droid Mini 4G make for a more attractive purchase than the Apple iPhone 5S or 5C.
The Motorola Droid Mini can be purchased at a reduced price starting at $44.99, saving you up to $55 over carrier prices.
Another feature Consumer Reports liked helps conserve battery power. Active Display only uses that part of the display which is needed for a notification, and this is one of many battery conservation features which lets the compact, skinny and lightweight Motorola Droid Mini deliver an incredible 28.0 hours of talk time after a full battery charge. That is nearly 3 times the industry average, and the phone also delivers a unique processing package.
The brand-new X8 Mobile Computing System is basically a dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU which has been clocked at a speedy 1.7 GHz, with a unique twist. But unlike most central processors, the dual core processor on board the Droid Mini benefits from a powerful quad core processor and two other standalone cores handling certain standard and low draw operations. A natural language processing core and contextual computing core help the GPU take some of the workload off of the central processor.
And that natural language processing core also allows the Motorola Droid Mini 4G to understand your voice, even when it is in standby mode. Simply say, “Okay, Google Now” and the phone is ready to receive your verbal commands. Motorola kept the handset slim and light, and compact, and the device measures 4.77 x 2.41 x 0.35 inches (121.25 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm) in size. Weighing just 4.59 ounces (130 g), the Droid Mini 4G recently received a retail price drop down to $45 on contract at select online stores like Amazon.
A Kevlar back plate and Gorilla Glass display protection make for a rugged handset, but with that compact design a large 4.30 inch screen is still delivered. The True HD multitouch LCD display offers a resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels, and 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is built-in. There is also 16 GB of built-in data storage space, and a 10.0 megapixel “quick capture” camera on the back of the phone. That rear snapper records video in 1,080P HD resolution, and a front facing chat cam provides video call support.
The Droid Mini can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $44.99.
