droidminiMotorola officially announced its new Ultra series of devices on July 23 of this year, and that includes the Ultra, Maxx, and Mini handsets. The Motorola Droid Mini officially goes live August 28 of this year, hitting the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States. The official price tag appears to have the phone debuting at $99 on contract, with the Droid Mini delivering the new Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System. This includes a dual core central processor, a powerful quad core graphics processor, and two separate stand-alone cores for both language processing and contextual computing.

The Motorola Droid Mini is available for pre-ordering at online retailers at a reduced sale price starting at $49.99 (A savings of up to $50 over carrier prices).

With two different cores handling language and contextual computing, the dual core processor is capable of speed not generally found on a two core chip. The CPU on board the Motorola Droid Mini has been clocked at 1.7 GHz, and the language processing core delivers a virtual voice assistant that allows for “touchless control”. This allows for a totally hands-free experience, and you can even wake up your phone with your voice.

The Motorola Droid Mini will also offer a “quick capture” camera mode on its rear facing 10.0 megapixel camcorder. This ensures that you can capture memories the instant you are ready, and even though the handset delivers an incredible 28.0 hours of talk time from a single battery charge, the handset is as slim and small as its name would dictate. However, there is still a large 4.30 inch 720P touchscreen on board, delivering a high-end pixel density of 342 pixels per inch, and overall resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels.

The profile is miniature in stature, measuring just 0.35 inches (8.9 mm) in thickness. The phone weighs just 4.59 ounces (130 g), and the handset can hold a charge in standby mode for up to 13.0 days. Wireless charging is supported, as are NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Motorola has given its Droid Mini 4G Android smartphone the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system out-of-the-box, as well as 16 GB of onboard storage and 2.0 GB of RAM system memory.

The 10.0 megapixel camera mentioned earlier offers an LED flash and autofocus, touch to focus, Geo tagging and face detection, and joins a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam in the Motorola Droid Mini’s camera combo. That rear snapper captures video in 1,080P HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and at the rate of 30 frames per second, and accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass and barometer sensors are also on board. You can pre-order the Motorola Droid Mini at a discounted price tag starting at $49.99 at select online retailers.
