Out-of-the-box the Motorola Droid Mini 4G delivered the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. Just recently though, Motorola and Google executives announced that the Droid Mini 4G would be included on the list of devices which would receive the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system update. No date has been set for launch, but now that the announcement has been made, the ball is in the court of wireless carriers like Verizon.
The Motorola Droid Mini can be purchased at a reduced price starting at one penny, saving you up to $49.98 over carrier prices.
The Motorola Droid Mini 4G runs on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, and recently benefited from a substantial lowering in retail price. The phone will set you back just one penny with a standard two-year contract when you purchase at the Amazon Wireless store online. The Motorola Droid Mini made a splash when it debuted alongside the Motorola Droid Ultra and Motorola Droid MAXX smartphones earlier this year at a gala press event in New York.
The hubbub surrounded what Motorola calls its X8 Mobile Computing System. There was some mistaken rumors that the 8 in that processor package name stood for an eight core central processor, but it actually refers to the fact that a total of eight separate cores help to process low-energy and low-draw operations. That includes a versatile quad core graphics processor, a standalone language processor and a separate computing processor core.
They work in tandem with the Snapdragon S4 Pro dual core central processor which has been clocked as high as 1.7 GHz. This unique set up joins built-in light and proximity sensors on the display to help conserve battery power. A Motorola spokesperson stated that the combination of those “processors and custom firmware has helped to extend battery life.” Motorola said this results in up to 50% better battery performance than the competition, and that has been proven out in real world tests, with a full 28.0 hours of talk time achieved from a full battery charge on the Droid Mini.
The NFC capable handset also delivers a generous 2.0 GB of RAM memory, while measuring a compact and slim 4.77 x 2.41 x 0.35 inches (121.25 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm) in size. The Motorola Droid 4G is also light in weight, weighing just 4.59 ounces (130 g). The display measures a large 4.30 inches, with a True HD resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels. Standby battery power lasts approximately 13.0 days, and wireless charging is supported. The handset’s main camera is a 10.0 megapixel snapper, with a Quick Capture mode and the capability of recording video in 1,080P HD resolution. The Droid Mini can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at just one penny.
