Motorola DROID Mini Hits Verizon With a Price Cut

droidminiThe Motorola Droid Mini was debuted in July at a huge press event in New York. The handset is one of three smartphones rolling out in the new Motorola Ultra lineup, but both the Droid Ultra and the Droid Maxx 4G smartphones hit the mobile marketplace in the United States before the Mini. The handset finally hit the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, toting a much lower price tag than originally anticipated. The handset was due to launch at $99 on contract, but is available for only $49 on contract currently at select online retailers.

The entire Ultra lineup from Motorola operates on that company’s X8 mobile computing system, which Motorola senior vice president of engineering Iqbal Arshad is a cluster of processors that allows for “intelligent, probabilistic computing.” This includes a dual core Snapdragon S4 Pro central processor clocked at 1.7GHz, a natural language processor, a contextual computing processor and quad core graphics processor. These eight total processing cores share low-power tasks and dedicated functions, which help preserve battery power.

This allows the compact, slim and light Motorola Droid Mini to deliver up to 28 hours of talk time from a single battery charge, while also offering a large high-resolution screen, ample RAM memory and an improved camera over previous Motorola smartphones. The 10.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the handset offers a quick capture mode for immediate snapshot taking, Clear Pixel technology that removes noise and blur while simultaneously capturing more light, and provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution at the rate of 30 frames per second, and also in stereo sound.

2.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, and the compact dimensions measure 4.77 x 2.41 x 0.35 inches (121.25 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm). Weighing in at just 4.59 ounces (130 g), the Motorola Droid Mini offers a large 4.30 inch display with a resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels. Pixel density is high at 342 pixels per inch, and the phone supports wireless charging. 16 GB of built-in data storage space is present, and the handset also offers a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam in its camera combo.

Motorola has stated that the new Droid Mini 4G running on Verizon delivers an “always on” environmental awareness. Even when your Droid Mini is in hibernation or sleep mode, it is always listening for you to say the phrase, “Okay Google Now,” at which time the search function enables you to search the internet as well as your handset’s storage and drive. Multiple voice commands are supported. The Droid Mini can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
