The Motorola Droid Razr Android smartphone has a birthday coming up soon. All the super skinny mobile handsets we have today owe their existence to the engineers and technicians at Motorola, as the Droid Razr 4G took slim to a whole new level. Arriving in the tech hungry United States on November 11 of last year as the slimmest smartphone ever manufactured, the Droid Razr 4G instantly became a hit for the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system on which it runs. The handset sailed off of virtual and physical store shelves as a bestseller for Verizon with a 0.28 inch (7.1 mm) runway model profile, and is light when compared to other 4G LTE smartphones at 4.48 ounces (127 g).

The Motorola Droid Razr is on sale now starting at 49.99.

Aside from delivering a super skinny form factor, Motorola designed the handset to be ultra-rugged as well. The now familiar Kevlar and aluminum coated body and scratch resistant Gorilla Glass display overlay team up with a layer of splash resistant nanocoating to make for a tough smartphone. And generally when mobile handsets reach one year in age, they have long since lost their competitive age. That is not the case with the Droid Razr 4G, which bears a bargain-basement price tag while still offering a powerful dual core processor, 4G LTE connectivity, simultaneous voice and data access and high resolution video capture.

The handset delivers 16 GB of data storage hardwired, and contains a built-in microSD slot for storage expansion. Accepting cards up to 32 GB in size, the handset also supports microSDHC cards. The 4.30 inch Super AMOLED display creates 540 x 960 pixel resolution, which is offered at 256 pixels every inch. That display also contains built-in light and proximity sensors, automatically providing the correct screen brightness while also conserving battery life by dimming the display when the Motorola Droid Razr 4G handset is lifted to your head to make or receive a voice call.

Delivering up to 12.5 hours of talk time on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system, the 1,780 mA battery does its skinny profile proud. Powering the handset is a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 suite of microchips, centered around a speedy dual core Cortex A9 CPU. A PowerVR SGX540 GPU focuses exclusively on graphics processing, and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board.

With a 1.3 megapixel chat cam providing video call support, the camera combo also includes a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear device includes a special effects package and built-in LED flash, and provides video recording in 1,080P HD resolution. A built-in music player is on board and filters by album, artist or play list, and a YouTube video player accompanies it in the multimedia package on board the handset.

Buy the Motorola Droid Razr 4G now starting at 49.99.
