Motorola recently designed an extended battery edition of the Motorola Droid RAZR, named the Droid RAZR Maxx. That move was made even though the Motorola Droid RAZR 4G Android handset exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network has tested at up to 12.5 hours of battery life from a single charge, 50% better than the average 4G handset. Nevertheless, the arrival of the nearly identical Maxx edition means that the original Droid RAZR benefits from a retail price drop to $99 at select Verizon authorized retailers with a standard two-year activation and data plan.

Aside from being thicker, heavier and providing extra battery life, the Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx is no different from the Droid RAZR. That means that those 4G shoppers looking for a healthy processor, 8.0 megapixel camcorder, large display and speedy Verizon LTE network can save one hundred dollars by buying the original Motorola Droid RAZR as opposed to the Maxx offering. And for those concerned with maximum portability and minimum size, the Motorola Droid RAZR is the thinnest 4G smartphone ever designed, at a wafer thin 0.28 inches (7.1 mm). The Droid RAZR is average in other measurements when compared to all 4G smartphones, with overall dimensions of 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.28 inches (130.7 x 68.9 x 7.1 mm), and a weight of 4.48 ounces (127 g).
Android’s Gingerbread operating system is present out-of-the-box, with a promise to upgrade to Google’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS in early 2012. The display on board is 4.30 inches and delivers 256 pixels per inch, meaning an overall resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. That Super AMOLED display offers 16 million unique colors, and is protected by a layer of scratch resistant and glare reducing Gorilla Glass.
A Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chip set is on board to power the Motorola Droid Razr 4G, and is made up of a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor and PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor that joins 1.0 GB of RAM memory to round out the hardware profile. The Motorola Droid RAZR offers 16 GB of built-in storage and comes with a 16 GB microSD card for a total of 32 GB of storage out-of-the-box.
The 8.0 megapixel camcorder located on the rear of the handset has autofocus and image stabilizing capabilities, and comes equipped with an LED flash, offering 1080P HD video capture. There is also a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam that offers video call functionality.
