The Motorola Droid RAZR arrived in late 2011 amidst one of the largest advertising campaigns seen in the last few years for an Android handset. In most of the advertisements, the super skinny smartphone was seen slashing through everything encountered. In honor of those advertisements, Verizon Wireless recently slashed their retail price of the handset to $169 at select Verizon authorized retailers with a standard two-year activation on their 4G LTE wireless platform. The handset was launched November 11, and arrived as the skinniest 4G smartphone handset ever designed.
Aside from that super slim profile, the Motorola Droid RAZR 4G Android smartphone that provides the Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box is average in size, shape and weight when compared to other 4G smartphones. Measuring 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.28 inches (130.7 x 68.9 x 7.1 mm) and weighing 4.48 ounces (127 g), the Droid RAZR is one of the few handsets slated to receive a free over the air upgrade to the much-anticipated Ice Cream Sandwich Android operating system in early 2012.

The display on the handset is 4.30 inches, and uses Super AMOLED technology to provide 16 million color rendering and 540 x 960 pixel resolution to the capacitive, multitouch screen. Auto brightness for the best possible display is delivered by a built-in light sensor, and when the handset goes unused for extended periods of time, a built-in proximity sensor kicks in, and shuts the device off to conserve battery life. A protective layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass overlays the display.
Unlike some skinny handsets, battery life is at a maximum. With approximately 50% better performance than the average 4G handset, the Motorola Droid RAZR 4G delivers 12.50 hours of talk time from a single charge of the 1780 mAh cell. A Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chip set is on board to power the handset, and includes a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor working in tandem with a PowerVR SGX540 graphics chip. 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and built-in storage runs to 16 GB. That storage can be expanded up to 32 GB using the built-in microSD slot.
A front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam is also available for video calls, and joins an 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the rear of the device in the camera combo. That rear snapper comes designed with an LED flash, and offers autofocus and image stabilizing features, while capturing video at 1080P HD resolution. Bluetooth 4.0 EDR and Wi-Fi 802.11 b, g, n channels provide wireless connectivity, and video out is provided by both DLNA wireless and HDMI wired technology.
