droidrazrhdThe Droid Razr HD owes its existence to the success of the original Droid Razr 4G Android smartphone. At 0.27 inches (7.1 mm) in thickness, the Droid Razr 4G was the thinnest smartphone ever designed when it launched in November of 2011. And while that handset was a smash hit, Motorola Mobility designers wanted to increase screen resolution and size, and also significantly upgrade battery performance. The resultant device was the Droid Razr HD, the first Droid Razr smartphone to deliver a 720P screen and all day battery performance.

The handset recently received a software upgrade, numbered build 9.16.6. That over the air upgrade is slowly trickling out to Motorola Droid Razr HD smartphones, and upgrades several features and performances. Several Google Security Patches have been made, and data roaming has been upgraded. Wi-Fi connectivity is more reliable, and the rear facing camcorder on the handset works better in low light situations, offers touch to focus camera improvements and enhanced notifications. The software upgrade also improves display resolution when streaming video.

The Droid Razr HD was released on October 18 of 2012, and runs the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 operating system. The handset is offered in your choice of either black or white, and recently received a reduced price tag as well as the software update. The handset now retails for one penny on contract at select online retail outlets such as the Amazon Wireless store. The 42% improvement in battery capacity of the original Droid Razr 4G has bestowed the Droid Razr HD with all day battery performance.

The slim 0.33 inch(8.4 mm) profile on the Droid Razr HD belies an extended life 2,530 mA battery. A full 20.0 hours of streaming music, 6.0 hours of 4G LTE speed while surfing the web, 10.0 hours of video playback or 16.0 hours of talk time is available from a single battery charge. Battery power lasts approximately 11.9 days in standby mode, and the handset delivers water resistant protection through a special nanocoating. The large 4.70 inch Super AMOLED screen delivers a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, as well as 16 million colors, at the high-end rate of 312 pixels per inch.

The Droid Razr HD delivers 1.0 GB of built-in RAM memory as well as 16 GB of built-in data storage space. The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder mentioned earlier records video in 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second, and the handset is powered by a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU. A microSD slot has been included for offboard data access and storage expansion, and the Chrome for Android mobile web browser is ready for use out-of-the-box.
