When Motorola released the iconic Droid Razr 4G in October of 2011, that handset was the thinnest by far of any smartphone ever made. It did have a small bump where the camera lens on the back of the phone protruded, but at a measly 7.1 mm (0.28 inches) the majority of the handset’s profile was, well, razor thin. Motorola has since created more Droid Razr handsets, but as the hardware package on those devices became more powerful, and the batteries get bigger to provide significant juice, the phones began to become thicker and heavier.
The Motorola Droid Razr M is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.
Enter the Droid Razr M 4G, currently offered for $0.01 on contract at the Amazon Wireless store online. That handset is the thinnest and lightest Droid Razr since the original Razr 4G exploded onto the smartphone marketplace scene in its skinny form factor. While Motorola wanted to make a more compact handset, they did not want to skimp on the display size or battery power. So they gave the handset a large 4.3 inch display, but kept the phone as small as possible by stretching the screen from corner to corner.
This allowed for a small and compact handset, measuring 4.82 x 2.40 x 0.33 inches (122.5 x 60.9 x 8.3 mm) and weighing just 4.44 ounces (126 g). That is significantly slimmer, lighter and smaller than other 4G phones with a 4.3 inch screen, and the handset is exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States. Verizon provides the largest LTE network in the US, but where 4G LTE is not available, the Droid Razr M 4G is also compatible with EV-DO, Rev A 3G and CDMA 800/1900 frequencies.
The Droid Razr M can also access GSM and 3G networks in more than 205 countries around the globe. The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system is on board, as is the Chrome for Android mobile web browser. The familiar DuPont Kevlar back plate which debuted with the original Droid Razr 4G is also present on this handset, and teams up with Gorilla Glass screen protection, a special water repellent nanocoating and aircraft grade aluminum framing to make for a very rugged phone.
The handset is NFC capable out-of-the-box, and the large 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED screen delivers a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Video is recorded at 1,080P HD resolution on the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and a chat cam faces the user up front. The Droid Razr M 4G also offers video out options, as well as a very generous 20.0 hours of talk time and 17.0 days of battery standby power from a single charge.
You can purchase the Droid Razr M at a discounted price tag now starting at $0.01.
