Motorola’s Droid Razr M 4G smartphone launched on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in September of last year. When it arrived it was running on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and has since been upgraded to Android’s 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. The handset currently retails for one penny on contract at the Amazon Wireless store online, and recently received a substantial software update full of bug fixes and multiple feature improvements, but the highly anticipated Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update is not among them.
However, Droid Razr M 4G smartphone owners would be wise to install the upgrade as soon as they receive a notification, as it does deliver a ton of helpful features. The official changelog has already been published by Verizon, and includes improvements in Wi-Fi connectivity and preset voice volume levels. The camera combo has also been upgraded, and now performs better in low light situations. Touch to focus operation has also been improved on the Droid Razr M 4G camera, and in call audio routing to a headset is now better as well.
The resolution while streaming video is much better, and improvements have been made to media sync with Back Up Assistant Plus and Verizon’s Visual Voice Mail. The software version is listed as 98.15.66.XT907.Verizon.en.US, and occurs as an over the air update. Do not worry if you do not see your update listed immediately. It will appear over the next few days. The lightest and thinnest of the Droid Razr handsets since the original, the compact Droid Razr M also supports global GSM and 3G networks.
NFC wireless support is present out-of-the-box, and the handset is ready for web surfing with the Chrome for Android mobile web browser pre-installed. By extending the display from corner to corner and edge to edge on the front of the phone, Droid Razr M engineers were capable of building the smallest handset possible, while also delivering a large 4.30 inch display. The Droid Razr M measures 4.82 x 2.40 x 0.33 inches (122.5 x 60.9 x 8.3 mm), and weighs just 4.44 ounces (126 g).
The large 4.30 inch qHD Super AMOLED screen delivers a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, as well as 16 million colors. A scratch-proof layer of Gorilla Glass protects the display, and the Droid Razr M 4G can deliver as much as 20.0 hours of talk time from a single charge. Video recording resolution runs 1,080P HD, and the phone is powered by a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU. 8.0 GB of internal storage is present, and the built-in microSD slot allows for storage expansion.
