Motorola’s Droid Razr was advertised as the thinnest 4G handset ever designed. And that handset has been very well received by the consumer-electronics buying public, and still remains one of Verizon’s best-selling handsets currently. But as is often the case with skinny smartphones, there isn’t much room for extensive battery life. That is why Motorola released the Droid Razr MAXX, delivering the same high-end feature set and specifications of the original Droid Razr, but adding an 85% larger battery. Exclusive to that Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system, the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX 4G recently benefited from a retail price drop to $199 at select Verizon authorized retailers with a standard two-year activation and data plan.

Delivering Android’s 2.3.6 Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX did beef-up considerably with the addition of its 3,300 mAh cell. However, Motorola has admirably kept the handset thinner still than most of its competitors’ offerings. Arriving in traditional candy bar form factor, the Droid Razr MAXX measures 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.35 inches (130.7 x 68.9 x 8.99 mm) and weighs 5.11 oz (145 g), both typical sets of numbers for a 4G smartphone.

With a protective layer of scratch resistant glass over the display, the 4.30 inch screen delivers 256 pixels per inch clarity, for an overall screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. That Super AMOLED screen is navigated by capacitive, multitouch gestures, and standard light and proximity sensors are built in. That battery mentioned earlier delivers a whopping 21.50 hours of talk time from a single charge of the 3,300 mAh cell, as well as 16 days standby. That run time is nearly 3 times the 4G industry average of eight hours, stretching the portability of the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX to a maximum.

The power pack on board is also one of the best available in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace, and includes a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip set comprised of a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor and graphics dedicated PowerVR SGX540 chip. The hardware package also includes 1.0 GB of RAM system memory and 16 GB of built-in storage. The Razr MAXX 4G handset delivers an 8.0 megapixel camcorder capable of providing 1080P HD resolution video recording with autofocus and image stabilizing features. A front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam is also present, as well as a proprietary YouTube video player in the multimedia package. Micro-HDMI and DLNA technologies provide video-out options, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi provide wireless connectivity.  Buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx starting at $199.
