The Droid Razr MAXX 4G arrived this January 26 on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, and returns many of the admirable features delivered by its previous skinny sibling, the Droid Razr 4G. The familiar Kevlar back plate and aircraft grade aluminum framing has been kept in place, and a protective layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass overlays the screen, with nanocoating providing splash-proof protection even to the electrical components inside. Simultaneous voice and data access is possible, and the handset improves on the decent Droid Razr 4G battery life by adding an oversized, extended life cell.
The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is on sale at select authorized retailers now starting at 69.99.
The large 3,300 mA battery on board the Droid Razr MAXX 4G delivers the 4G best talk time of any smartphone at 21.5 hours available from a single battery charge. Standby time sits at nearly 16 days, and the handset borrows the skinny motif of its ultra-thin predecessor, measuring 0.35 inches (8.99 mm). The display on board is 4.30 inches, and that Super AMOLED Advanced screen delivers 540 x 960 pixel resolution. Standard light and proximity sensors are built-in, and more than 16 million individual colors are used in visual representations. MicroHDMI and DLNA technology provide video out options.
The handset can also function as an entry-level laptop PC with optional Lapdock 100 and Lapdock 500 accessories, and as a hands-free voice-activated search and GPS unit when coupled with the optional Motorola in-vehicle mount with rapid charger. Motorola also makes an HD Station, allowing the handset to operate as a multimedia hub or desktop PC, providing access to peripherals like a mouse, keyboard, monitor and speakers by way of its three USB slots and a microHDMI cable. The hardware powering the handset includes a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip suite, with a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor at its cornerstone.
