On January 26 this year the thicker twin of the Droid Razr 4G appeared, in the form of the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX 4G Android smartphone. As you probably know, the Droid Razr 4G was the skinniest smartphone ever designed, and was an instant bestseller for Verizon. But more than one customer complained about poor battery life, which wasn’t surprising considering the ultra-skinny design, but those same customers said they had no problems with the handset’s feature set. So Motorola smartphone designers and engineers put their heads together, and decided to keep the exact same unique Kevlar and aluminum chassis, hardware and software offered by the Droid Razr 4G, and slap on a massive battery.
The result was the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G, with the exact same technical specs of the Razr, but with an oversized and extended life 3,300 mA battery. The handset delivers far and away the best battery performance of any 4G smartphone, with 21.5 hours of talk time or 15.0 hours of video playback from a single charge. That is nearly 3 times the 4G smartphone average, and Motorola did that while still creating an extra slim profile, at only 0.35 inches (8.99 mm).
The handset is also splash-proof, and the display size is 4.30 inch. That Super AMOLED advanced screen delivers a 540 x 960 pixel resolution at 256 pixels per inch, and over 16 million separate colors are used to create displays. The handset is protected against chipping and scratching by a Corning Gorilla Glass overlay that also offers glare reduction. In the hardware package the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX employees a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip package to run the handset’s processes.
That chip package centers around a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor, and also present is a separate PowerVR SGX540 GPU that handles all graphics processing. The max in the Droid Razr MAXX name also refers to the maximum amount of out-of-the-box data storage the handset provides, with 16 GB of built-in storage and a 16 GB removable microSD card which ships with the handset. Video out is achieved by a cable through the microSD slot on board, or wirelessly by using the built-in and DLNA video out connectivity.
The Droid Razr MAXX 4G delivers 1,080P HD video recording with the 8.0 megapixel camcorder built into the back of the handset, and it joins a 1.3 megapixel chat cam in the camera combo. That chat cam also delivers portrait snapshot capabilities and video call support. The handset comes with a YouTube video player pre-installed, as well as a built-in music player that supports all audio file formats. You can buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx starting at $99.
