When the Motorola Droid Razr 4G first arrived, it truly earned it’s “razor” moniker. It was the slimmest handset designed when it launched, and while battery life was not poor, it was one of the few features which needed to improve if the Droid Razr lineup was to succeed. Motorola Mobility designers have definitely figured out the slim profile/excellent battery recipe since that original Razr 4G, and the Droid Razr MAXX HD offers what is arguably the best battery performance of any 4G smartphone.
The handset launched on October 18 on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, and is global ready, able to access networks in more than 205 countries around the world. The phone offers virtual safety if you plan on using it for business, as all e-mail, calendar and contact information is protected by a government grade data encryption package. You can also remotely erase the hard drive should your handset ever become lost or stolen, and the Droid Razr MAXX HD also offers a personal identification number locking system.
Delivered in your choice of black or white with NFC wireless support out-of-the-box, the handset is slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm). That skinny design belies a large screen, and both the 4.7 inch display and 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution are substantial improvements over the original Droid Razr 4G. Pixel density is high at 312 pixels per inch, and that Super AMOLED screen is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass. The sensitive electrical components inside the Droid Razr Maxx HD are given water resistance by a special splash-proof nanocoating.
Durable DuPont Kevlar and aircraft grade aluminum make up the exterior, and both DLNA and microHDMI video out options are present on the Droid Razr Maxx HD. Coming to battery life, the 3,300 mA battery provides a more than generous 21.0 hours of talk time from a full battery charge. That single charge also produces 13.0 hours of video playback, 10.0 hours of streaming video, and an incredible 27.0 hours of streaming music. If you like to surf the web, 8.0 hours of browsing the Internet is provided from a single charge, as is up to 8.0 hours of voice-guided GPS Navigation with Google Maps.
The handset is powered by a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU, and 1.0 GB of LP DDR2 RAM memory has been pre-installed. The phone offers a full 32 GB of onboard data storage, and a microSD slot for storage expansion. The 1.3 megapixel camcorder on the front of the Droid Razr MAXX HD is capable of video calls and video chats, and the rear mounted 8.0 megapixel camcorder comes with a built-in LED flash. That rear snapper provides face detection, touch to focus and image stabilization, recording video in 1,080P HD resolution.
