When smartphone batteries get too big, the handsets often times become fat and bulky. Motorola Mobility engineers have done an excellent job in giving the Droid Razr MAXX HD an oversized and extended life cell which arguably offers the best performance of any 4G mobile handset’s battery. And in doing so they kept with the super-slim design motif of previous Droid Razr models. The handset measures just 0.37 inches (9.3 mm) in thickness, has a splash-proof nanocoating, and delivers one of the largest and highest resolution displays found on any smartphone.

The Droid Razr MAXX HD runs on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, and is powered by a huge 3,300 mA battery. Big Red claims the handset can offer up to 32 all-around hours of use, and on the Verizon LTE network you can expect 8.0 hours of web surfing or 8.0 hours of voice guided GPS navigation from a single charge. That large battery powers completely in as little as four hours, and also offers a generous 27.0 hours of streaming music, 13.0 hours of video playback and up to 21.0 hours of talk time from a full charge.
Standby time after a full charge runs approximately 15.5 days, and Verizon claims you can get up to “450 miles worth of GPS turn by turn directions, 4,283 taps, swipes and pinches on the touch screen” when the battery is fully charged. The whole idea of cell phones is that they offer mobility, and the Droid Razr MAXX HD provides extreme portability and mobility by allowing you to use it for extended periods of time without having to search for a charger.
The display alluded to above runs 4.70 inches, with 720 by 1,280 pixels. Pixel density is high at 312 ppi, and more than 16 million separate colors can be found on the display. A scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protects against everyday wear and tear, and the Droid Razr Maxx HD handset offers both DLNA and microHDMI video out options. Motorola has built a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder into the back the Droid Razr Maxx HD, and that rear snapper provides video capture in 1,080P HD resolution.
The camcorder offers customization options through digital image stabilization, geo-tagging, touch to focus and face detection, and comes equipped with a built-in LED flash for low light operation. A front facing chat cam is also on board, and the phone is powered by a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU. 1.0 GB of RAM memory joins a generous 32 GB of built-in data storage in the handset’s hardware package, which also includes an Adreno 225 GPU. For memory expansion a microSD slot is on board, and the Chrome for Android mobile web browser has been pre-installed.
