The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD Android smartphone was launched on October 18. And just like previous Droid Razr devices, that handset debuted on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the US. The Droid Razr line of handsets has been extremely successful for Motorola and Verizon, starting with the Droid Razr 4G when it launched as the skinniest 4G smartphone ever designed. The Droid Razr MAXX HD recently received a software upgrade, delivered OTA as build # 0.7.2.
The update is merely a “Google Security Patch” that will not in any way change the user interface or the way you use the handset. The Droid Razr MAXX HD is unique among smartphones in that it delivers the ability to remotely wipe the handset’s hard drive of all sensitive user specific information if it is ever lost or stolen. The security profile continues with a programmable Personal Identification Number lock, and government level encryption to protect your e-mail, contacts and calendar information.
The Droid Razr MAXX HD is currently offered in black, and delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box. Slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm), the handset was designed with a waterproof nanocoating, even protecting sensitive electrical boards inside. The rugged Kevlar and aluminum body has returned from previous models, and a protective layer of Corning Gorilla Glass offers scratch resistance. Extreme battery life accompanies the largest smartphone display ever made by Motorola at 4.7 inches on the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD 4G.
That Super AMOLED screen delivers a high resolution 720 x 1,280 pixel display, with a high pixel density of 312 pixels per inch. All-day run time is offered with 21.00 hours of talk time, 13.00 hours of video playback or 10.00 hours of streaming video delivered from a single charge of the oversized 3,300 mA battery on board. The system chip is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 model, and the central processor is a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait chip. An Adreno 225 GPU exclusively handles all graphics processing, and 1 GB of LP DDR2 RAM accompanies 32 GB of built-in data storage.
A microSD slot allows for storage expansion opportunities, and the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder is capable of recording video in 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second. A front facing chat cam is also on board, and the Droid Razr MAXX HD comes equipped with a built-in music player which supports all major audio file formats, as well as a proprietary YouTube video player. The Google Chrome for Android web browser has been pre-installed.
