Motorola has done very well with their Droid Razr lineup. Starting with the original Droid Razr 4G in 2011, the entire Droid Razr line has been very well received in the smartphone marketplace. The Droid Razr MAXX HD truly earns its “max” moniker, as it delivers what is arguably the maximum battery performance offering of any smartphone. Launched on October 18, much like its sibling the Droid Razr M 4G the handset is global ready for access in more than 205 countries around the world, as well as 4G capable.
Running on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, the Droid Razr MAXX HD had previously received a price reduction down to $99 on contract at select online retailers and seems to be holding steady at that sub $100 price. As we have come to know from previous Droid Razr models, the handset is also rugged, with a durable DuPont Kevlar back plate and aircraft grade aluminum framing. The display is protected by a scratch resistant layer of Gorilla Glass, and even the electrical components inside, as well as the exterior of the phone, are water repellent thanks to a special water resistant nanocoating.
The Droid Razr MAXX HD also offers protection for your personal information, as it delivers remote hard drive wiping access from any computer with an Internet connection. You can also choose to employ the optional personal identification number locking system to limit access to your handset, and all your e-mail, calendar and contacts are instantly given government grade data encryption. Offering a large 4.70 inch display and all day battery performance with an extended life cell, the handset is still slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm).
That large Super AMOLED 4.7 inch display delivers a pixel density of 312 pixels per inch, giving the Droid Razr MAXX HD an overall resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. The handset uses more than 16 million independent colors to render visuals, and video out options are present. The aforementioned 3,300 mA battery provides a generous 21.0 hours of talk time, 27.0 hours of streaming music over Verizon’s LTE network, 8.0 hours of web surfing and 13.0 hours of video playback from a single charge.
That battery can charge in as little as four hours, and the system chip is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 model. 32 GB of internal storage is present, with a microSD slot provided. The CPU is a dual core 1.5 GHz chip, with an Adreno 225 GPU handling all graphics processing. In the camera combo, the rear shooter runs 8.0 megapixels, delivering 1,080P HD resolution video capture. A front facing chat cam is also on board, and can be used for video calls.
