Launched on October 18, the Droid Razr MAXX HD 4G Android smartphone arrived on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the US. The handset has received a security software suite from Motorola designers, protecting your sensitive information with a remote hard drive wipe, personal identification number lock and government level data encryption. The Droid Razr MAXX HD is also durable with a DuPont Kevlar and aircraft grade aluminum body, splashproof protective nanocoating for both the interior and exterior, and a scratch resistant layer of Gorilla Glass. Providing Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 operating system out-of-the-box, it appears that the Jelly Bean 4.1 OS upgrade announced last month is on schedule and on the way.
The Droid Razr M 4G Android smartphone is currently undergoing an over the air upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.1, and the Droid Razr MAXX HD and Droid Razr HD should be next to receive that operating system. Last month Motorola announced which phones would receive Jelly Bean 4.1, but did not announce a hard delivery date. The Droid Razr MAXX HD is available in black or white, and offers NFC (Near Field Communications) wireless connectivity out-of-the-box. The handset is slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm), and slightly heavy for a 4G smartphone at 5.54 ounces (157 g).
The large 4.70 inch Super AMOLED screen supports standard capacitive, multitouch gestures, with a built-in proximity sensor helping to conserve battery life. The light sensor automatically adjusts the screen brightness for the best possible display, and more than 16 million colors are used to render visuals. Pixel density runs to the high-end of the mobile marketplace at 312 pixels per inch, and that gives the display an overall 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution. Video out exists in both DLNA and microHDMI options.
With all day battery performance that it stole from its predecessor, the Droid Razr MAXX 4G, the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD 4G squeezes 13.0 hours of video playback or 21.0 hours of talk time from a single charge of its extended life 3,300 mA battery. Standby time is more than two weeks from a single charge, and Motorola chose a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 microchip set to handle device operations. A dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor anchors that chip package, and a graphics specific Adreno 225 GPU is also on board.
The most out-of-the-box, built-in data storage is delivered at 32 GB, with microSD and microSDHC support for external memory cards up to 32 GB. 1.0 GB of LP DDR2 RAM system memory is built-in, and the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder provides an LED flash and autofocus, touch to focus, face detection and image stabilization features. That rear snapper offers an f/2.4 lens aperture, recording video in 1,080P HD resolution. A front facing chat cam is also present, with YouTube and Picasa applications pre-installed.
You can purchase the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD for a reduced price tag now starting at 199.99.
