The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD has been a bestseller for the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the United States. The handset arrived last October, in a slim but durable form factor. The Jelly Bean powered Android smartphone has been spotted retailing at a substantial discount to its launch price. Currently offered for around $99 on contract at select online retailers like Amazon, the phone recently underwent a software upgrade.
The over the air upgrade to build 9.16.6 improves camera operation, Wi-Fi connectivity, video streaming, and provides multiple security and bug fixes. Verizon has been aggressively updating their handset lineup,s software recently, and even small upgrades are important. Droid Razr MAXX HD customers can use their handset in more than 205 countries around the world, and security features like a remote hard drive wipe, personal identification number lock and government grade data encryption have been pre-installed.
Slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm) in thickness, the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD 4G Android smartphone is also waterproof thanks to a special nanocoating. Durable DuPont Kevlar and tough aircraft grade aluminum framing make up the body, and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass offers scratch resistance. The large 4.70 inch Super AMOLED True HD screen delivers a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, offered at a high-end pixel density of 312 pixels per inch. Over 16 million separate colors are used to render visuals on that display.
The Droid Razr MAXX HD also provides video out options through DLNA and microHDMI connectivity, and the handset delivers what is arguably the best possible battery performance of any 4G smartphone. The oversized 3,300 mA cell delivers nearly 16 days of standby power, as well as 21.0 hours of talk time from a full battery charge. That single charge also provides up to 8.0 hours of web surfing, 8.0 hours of voice guided GPS navigation, 10.0 hours of streaming video and a generous 27.0 hours of streaming music.
Running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip and a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU, it delivers 1.0 GB of LP DDR2 RAM system memory, with a generous 32 GB of internal storage. A microSD slot is also on board, video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution with the rear facing camcorder of 8.0 megapixels, and the front facing chat cam offers video call support. The Chrome for Android mobile web browser has been pre-installed, and the Droid Razr MAXX HD is NFC capable.
