The handset currently delivers the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 Android operating system out-of-the-box, with an over the air upgrade to the Jelly Bean 4.1 OS currently in the works.

The handset was designed to be waterproof, with a splash guard nanocoating protecting both the exterior and interior components. The large 4.70 inch Super AMOLED screen uses more than 16 million different colors to render visuals, and pixel density is at the high-end, at 312 pixels per inch. That creates an overall display resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, one of the highest found on any smartphone.

The handset is familiar in appearance to previous Droid Razr models, retaining the durable DuPont Kevlar and aircraft grade aluminum body style.
A microSD slot provides storage expansion, and the Droid Razr MAXX HD delivers the most out-of-the-box, built-in data storage of any mobile handset at 32 GB. 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, and an Adreno 225 GPU handles all graphics processing. That chip package on board is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 suite, with a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU as its anchor. Video is captured at 1,080P HD resolution by the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and a YouTube video player has been pre-installed.
