You can often tell a lot about a consumer-electronics device by checking the technical specifications. Figures and numbers don’t appeal to everyone, but they offer a great way of comparing devices so you can make the best selection. On October 18 the Droid Razr MAXX HD was launched on the Verizon Wireless network in the United States, and we’re going to take a quick look at the technical specs and features that handset offers. Motorola has added some really neat security minded software, and the same rugged Kevlar and aluminum body has returned from previous Droid Razr models.
The Droid Razr MAXX HD really tells you what it’s about in its name. The Droid Razr 4G was the thinnest handset ever built when it launched, the Droid Razr MAXX 4G delivers the maximum battery performance of any 4G smartphone, and the HD designation means a true high resolution screen. True to that terminology, the Droid Razr MAXX HD is slim, delivers outstanding battery performance, and offers a display resolution that ranks among the leaders in the mobile marketplace. Motorola even added a remote wipe feature that allows you to erase the hard drive remotely if your handset has been lost or stolen, included a personal identification number lock, and protects your e-mail, calendar and contacts with government grade encryption.
Offered in your choice of black or white, the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system is present out-of-the-box. The device measures 5.19 x 2.67 x 0.37 inches (131.9 x 67.9 x 9.3 mm), weighing 5.54 ounces (107 g). Continuing in the tradition of previous Droid Razr models, the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX HD 4G is waterproof and splash resistant, and the display is protected by a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. At 4.70 inches the screen is the largest made by Motorola for a smartphone, offering a high-end resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. That is delivered at 312 pixels per inch, and more than 16 million separate colors are present on that display.
Standard capacitive, multitouch gestures are used for device navigation, and video out is offered by either DLNA wireless or microHDMI wired connectivity. Talk time is almost second to none, at 21.0 hours from a single battery charge. 10.0 hours of streaming video, 13.0 hours of video playback or 27.0 hours of streaming music when in Verizon LTE network coverage areas is also possible.
A 1.5 GHz dual core Krait central processor joins an Adreno 225 GPU in the microchip package, and 1.0 GB of LP DDR2 RAM is present, as is the 4G-best 32 GB of data storage. A microSD slot allows for storage expansion, and the rear facing 8.0 megapixel provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution. A front facing chat cam is also on board offering video call support, and a YouTube video player has been pre-installed. The handset also offers the Chrome for Android web browser pre-loaded.
