The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX 4G Android smartphone arrived on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the US on January 26 this year, with the familiar splash resistant, Kevlar and aluminum body that graces its skinnier twin, the Motorola Droid Razr 4G. Originally launching with Google’s Gingerbread operating system, the handset now employees the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 OS. Past iterations of Motorola Droid handsets employed the Motoblur user interface to mesh with Android operating systems, but that UI was pretty unpopular with most smartphone buyers. Fortunately, the new ICS update for the Droid Razr MAXX shows no trace of the Motoblur software.

The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is on sale now starting at 69.99.

The ICS 4.0 OS version for the Droid Razr MAXX 4G employs the typical five ICS home screens. It is very easy to drag and drop items to or from the main menu or any home screen. You can customize in just a few seconds, and the changes are not permanent, you can personalize your screens as many times as you desire. ICS widgets are also customizable, and the new contacts format is large and clear. When you pull up one of your contacts, you see their picture at the top of the screen, with their phone number, e-mail address and other information below. But a really neat edition is a huge area for notes below the phone number, where you can list important contact info that is viewable at a glance.

Orientation change is quick, and the new ICS keyboard format is easy to use. Subtle changes in the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX 4G user interface make ICS 4.0 on the handset a nice addition, and as mentioned earlier, Motorola wisely pulled out several annoying Motoblur influences. Verizon’s 4G LTE network provides speeds up to 10 times faster than their 3G system, and the Droid Razr MAXX 4G allows for simultaneous voice and data access.

Despite the addition of an 85% larger battery than on the Droid Razr 4G, the handset is still thin, and measures 5.15 x 2.71 x 0.35 inches (130.7 x 68.9 x 8.99 mm), weighing 5.11 ounces (145 g). The display runs 4.30 inches and offers a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, represented at 256 pixels per inch. That Super AMOLED advanced screen is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass.

Talk time runs 21.50 hours from a single charge of the 3,300 mA battery on board, the best battery performance of any 4G smartphone. A dual core 1.2 GHz central processor is on board, and the handset ships with 16 GB of memory built-in as well as a removable 16 GB microSD card. Video capture is provided at 1,080P HD by the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder.

Buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G now starting at 69.99.
