With a unique aluminum, steel and Kevlar clipped-corner design, the ultra-thin Motorola Droid RAZR arrived on the smartphone landscape as the thinnest 4G smartphone ever designed. And at a wafer thin 7.1 mm (0.28 inches), it truly does offer a skimpy profile. Aside from that super-thin measurement, the handset is average in size and weight when compared to other 4G smartphones. Out-of-the-box, the Motorola Droid RAZR delivers Android’s 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system, but is one of the few lucky smartphones to be shortlisted for the much-anticipated and highly touted Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
Powered by a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chip set which is comprised of a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor and PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor, the Motorola Droid RAZR also delivers 1.0 GB of RAM system memory and 16 GB of built-in storage in its hardware package. Total storage can be improved to 32 GB via the built-in microSD port, and a microUSB port is also on board.
The display offered by the skinny Motorola Droid RAZR 4G is 4.30 inches, and Super AMOLED technology is employed to deliver 540 x 960 pixel resolution and 16 million color representation. The display uses standard multitouch capacitive gestures to navigate the device, built-in light and proximity sensors provide auto brightness and auto shut off adjustments, and the screen is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass which offers glare reduction and scratch resistance.
Many times with skinny phones, battery life is at a premium. That is not the case with the Droid RAZR 4G, which delivers 50% better talk time from a single battery charge than the typical 4G smartphone, at 12.50 hours. The camera package on board the Motorola Droid RAZR includes a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam which also provides video call capabilities, and a rear mounted 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear device provides autofocus and image stabilizing features, comes equipped with an LED flash, and is capable of video capture at 1080P HD resolution.
